Operator/Passenger Services

East Midlands Railway (EMR) is operated by Transport UK Group. Transport UK is an international transport group who also operate the West Midlands Railway and Greater Anglia franchises, and the Merseyrail concession in the UK. EMR run intercity trains between London and South Yorkshire via the East Midlands, and regional services throughout the East Midlands.

Since 2019 EMR has invested significantly, bringing benefits to customers and communities across the network. This includes the launch of EMR Connect in May 2021, an all-electric train service running twice hourly between Corby and London St Pancras. This service has since enabled the introduction of the Luton Airport Express in March 2023 and links London St Pancras to London Luton Airport in as little as 32 minutes.

The successful delivery of the Midland Mainline Upgrade Programme enables EMR to provide a more reliable and robust train service with faster journeys. This continued programme of investment is also key in the introduction of the new state of the art bi-mode trains from 2025, allowing EMR to carry out a complete fleet replacement on the Intercity route. The new bi-mode trains will also support EMR’s sustainability commitment to lower emissions, whilst also improving customer experience.

It is EMR’s vision to drive the regions it serves towards a brighter future, working in partnership to connect cities, support communities and create easier journeys for everyone.
