Event details
Join us in person for the UK-Armenia Business Forum at 23 Grafton Street. The forum is being organised by Enterprise Armenia in partnership with the British Embassy in Yerevan and the Armenian Embassy in the UK, with senior participation from the Ministry of Economy of Armenia as part of the visiting delegation.
Recently Armenia has made substantial improvements in tackling corruption, and has one of the most favourable legislative regimes for foreign investment amongst the region.
Many opportunities exist across the infrastructure sector. For example, the new public transport system for the capital city Yerevan, designed and to be implemented with inputs from British firms, envisages a two-fold reduction in the number of high-emitting vehicles and over USD 100 million worth of opportunities for UK manufacturers of electric buses and charging infrastructure.
There are favourable opportunities for hi-tech companies to locate in Armenia as a hub for research and development. There is a domestic demand for enterprise resource planning and healthcare industry solutions. ICT/hi-tech is the most rapidly growing sector of the economy with the biggest presence of foreign companies.
There are equally exciting opportunities in the energy sector. Armenia is implementing an USD 800 million investment programme for the modernisation of electricity transmission and distribution network, and is building interconnections with neighbouring Georgia and Iran. On renewables, it has pledged to increase the share of solar energy 17-fold to 15% and the share of zero-emission sources in total energy generation to 54% by 2030.
The government plans to float tenders for construction of seven solar photovoltaic power plants with total installed capacity of 520MW next year. The government has indicated potential opportunities for the development of two medium-sized hydropower plants.
