Network Rail is launching two competitions:
- For innovative approaches that will help to deliver its future infrastructure requirements through a demonstration of technology to automatically process point cloud gauging data.
- A solution to detect and deter trespass onto the railway from platform ends and edges.
There is a webcast if you’re unable to attend in person.
Competition briefing event for SBRIs in ‘Innovation in Automated Survey Processing for Railway Structure Gauging’ and ‘Innovation in Railway Platform End and Edge Technology’
Network Rail, through Innovate UK, are to invest £2.88 million in two SBRI competitions to improve the safety and efficiency of our railways. The competitions launch on Monday 2nd December and this briefing event is aimed at providing you with more information on the competitions and how to apply. It is also an opportunity to meet others, network and form collaborative partnerships.
Details of the two competitions are:
Innovation in Automated Survey Processing for Railway Structure Gauging, Phase 1: Up to £720,000 (+VAT) is available to support the development of a demonstrator for automated structure gauging data processing. Gauging is the process through which Network Rail ensures adequate clearance between passing trains and lineside objects and features.
The objective of this competition is to demonstrate innovations to Network Rail that will enhance the interpretation of point-cloud data, providing accurate information on the location and identity of trackside features to enable accurate gauging clearance processing. An extra £1,080,000m (+VAT) will be available for phase 2.
Innovation in Railway Platform End and Edge Technology: Up to £1.08m (+VAT) is available to support the key challenges faced by Network Rail: trespass at platform ends and edges (e.g. fare evasion, shortcuts) and incursion over platform ends and edges to commit crime (e.g. cable theft, vandalism).
Network Rail is seeking to demonstrate the capability of physical and/or technological solutions to combat these challenges. The solution must be scalable to suit a variety of station environments and will be tested through trials at multiple live station environments.
Pitch opportunity: If you are a company and interested in applying, you have the option to give a 2-minute elevator pitch at the London event to raise awareness of your expertise to be a sub-contractor, or what expertise you seek in a potential sub-contractor. If this is of interest, please select this option during registration (via the Delegate Registration) and you will be sent further details.
Not able to attend in London? This event will also be available via webcast and you can register to join online here.
You can choose to register to watch either Session 1: Innovation in Automated Survey Processing for Railway Structure Gauging, Phase 1 or Session 2: Innovation in Railway Platform End and Edge Technology.
