If you are interested in the tour of the Rail Research Innovation Centre at Lonsdale House, Derby, commencing at 2.00pm, please contact karen@midlandsrail.co.uk as there are places still available.

An opportunity to engage directly with your Rail Forum Board, remain connected, hear a brief update on Rail Forum key activities and raise any issues that you are facing in your businesses.

Your feedback will then help shape our ongoing priorities and activities together with our key messages to stakeholders.

There will also be an opportunity to look round Lonsdale House, Derby, home to the Rail Forum team as well as the Innovate 4 Rail project team.  This will also include a tour round Derby University’s new Rail Research and Innovation Centre (RRIC) to show their Software and Hardware in the Loop* facility including a presentation to illustrate its range of capabilities. The RRIC supports collaborative research and innovation projects with the local rail supply chains. The Centre includes three ‘technology demonstrators’, with equipment showcasing capabilities in:

  • Advanced rail composite design and manufacture
  • Rail data analytics and artificial intelligence
  • Intelligent power solutions to de-carbonise rail.

* ‘software-in-the-loop’ provides engineers with a practical, virtual simulation environment for the development and testing of control strategies for systems

‘hardware-in—the-loop’ allows physical equipment to be tested and integrated with the virtual simulation environment.
