As part of Wales Week London 2024, this panel discussion and networking event will focus on the South Wales Metro programme, and the economic and social impact an integrated public transport network will have across south-east Wales. Our panel will also explore what other city regions across the UK could learn from the programme and what investments and measures are required to transform the UK’s transport system and super charge the economy.
Delivered in conjunction with Transport for Wales and the regional local authorities, the first phase of the Metro programme is the first time that Network Rail-owned railway infrastructure – the Core Valley Lines – has ever been fully devolved to another owner and manager. This phase is due for completion in 2025. As a fully integrated network of bus, rail and active travel, the Metro will help create a new eco system for travel across south-east Wales, providing more accessibility and connectivity, encouraging behavioural change and helping communities prosper.
Our panel will include:
- Mark Barry, Professor of Practice in Connectivity, Cardiff University
- Camilla Ween, Head of Communications, ConnectedCities
- Isabel Dedring, Global Transport Leader and Group Board Member, Arup (Chair)
- Jo Stevens MP, Shadow Secretary of State for Wales
