An Introduction to Railway Approvals and Certification’ is a one-hour learning session designed to provide attendees with a general overview of the applicable legislation and standards that apply to our railways. Rail is one of the world’s strictest industries when it comes to safety and trying to get components, parts, systems, and wider rail vehicles approved can be a daunting experience.

Don’t know the difference between a VeBo and a DeBo? Unsure whether you need independent approvals? What exactly constitutes a ‘significant change’? This workshop is tailor-made for those that possess limited or no knowledge of the UK railway approvals regime. The workshop will focus on Rolling Stock; but will also include the requirements for Signalling and Infrastructure Systems.

Martin Elliott is the Head of RAL (Railways Approvals Ltd.). Part of DB ESG, a subsidiary of DB Systemtechnik; Europe’s largest Rolling Stock engineering consultancy.  A Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the IMechE, Martin has over 35 years of railway experience and is currently serving as Chairman of the Midlands Centre of the IMechE Railway Division.

The session is provided by DB ESG and RAL, in collaboration with the Rail Forum – it is free of charge and exclusive to Rail Forum members. Sessions will be held over Microsoft Teams, approx. 1 hour with 45 minutes of presentation followed by 15 minutes of questions – sessions will be capped at 25 people maximum and distributed on a first come, first serve basis. Two sessions have been scheduled initially, taking place on 15th February and 20th February
