ADHERE is a cross-industry programme managed by RSSB, which sets out to strategically tackle the adhesion challenge and achieve ‘adhesion conditions that are unaffected by and independent of the weather and climate’. Notable achievements to date have included the trial of Double Variable Rate Sanders (Birmingham Cross-City Line) and enhancement of LABRADOR (Low Adhesion Braking model), amongst many others. Furthermore, the Network Rail R&D programme has also been piloting novel solutions to clean the rail head, and internationally other solutions have been developed, such as a railhead laser cleaning train trialled on the New York metro and in the Netherlands.
RSSB are offering two dissemination events which will provide an opportunity to share and discuss the cross-industry research and innovation activities RSSB and others are undertaking, both in GB and elsewhere, to improve autumn performance.
