In December Rail Forum Midlands CEO Elaine Clark was delighted to visit Littleover Community School with Tidyco’s Phil Mason to see progress on the ‘Tidyco Toolbox Challenge’.
Phil came up with the idea of the challenge to encourage and help schools to re-establish metalwork on their curriculum. Following a year piloting the idea in an ‘after school’ club the school has now embraced the concept and has embedded the challenge, which involves pupils making their own individual toolbox, into its Design and Technology curriculum. Tidyco has supplied all the parts to manufacture 100 toolboxes together with various tools and drawings.
“This initiative is down to the sheer determination of one person who is passionate about giving young people the opportunity to get some hands on practical experience of metalwork whilst at school; Phil and Tidyco deserve huge credit for seeing the idea through to reality” said Elaine.
“When we visited all the pupils were really engaged making their toolboxes and the standard of work was really high. All the students I spoke to said this was the first opportunity they had had to do some metalwork”.
