The opportunity to use green hydrogen as fuel for industrial and manufacturing processes is gaining momentum across the UK. Yet, there remain significant challenges in transporting hydrogen from production facilities to users, particularly where pipelines are not available. The opportunity to use rail to move bulk hydrogen is therefore of great interest, whilst also raising many questions from scale, safety and financing.
To explore this topic, RFG is holding its first RFG Hydrogen Seminar on 4 March 2025, which will focus on the potential of transporting hydrogen by rail. It will be held at BCRRE (University of Birmingham Centre for Railway Research and Education), 10:00 – 15:00 and is FREE for RFG members. It will also be available online to those who cannot attend in person.
A limited number of non-member places are available, please contact us directly if you wish to book.
The event will include speakers from the Hydrogen Energy Association, BCRRE, Freeport East and Network Rail, and a representative from Government has been invited. Industry speakers will also examine barriers to entry and discuss the rail wagons and equipment that will be needed.
There will also be a panel and plenty of time for questions and discussion. And the chance for a tour around BCRRE after the meeting finishes.
