Following the annual Crossrail update, the Department for Transport (DfT) has continued its positive outlook for the costings of the project, but added that Crossrail Ltd are continually looking at identifying and implementing additional cost efficient initiatives.
The project is currently proving to be an all-round success; providing crucial experience for circa 700 apprentices via Crossrail’s purpose-built training facility, the “Tunnelling and Underground Construction Academy” will continue to offer apprenticeships and training for the next generation of skills for rail, following its move to join Transport for London.
The Crossrail programme is reported to be closing in on 85% completion, 10% on from September 2016, with testing of the new central station infrastructure and systems to begin by the end of the year, and the new central section stations being completed during next year.
