SNC-Lavalin is pleased to announce four senior appointments within its UK Rail & Transit team. The recently formed Rail Infrastructure Systems product area draws together three of the company’s existing areas of expertise; Control Systems, Route Systems and Energy Systems.
Matt Phillips has been appointed Director, Rail Infrastructure Systems. In this role, Matt is supported by three new leadership positions; Head of Control Systems – Martin Fenner, Head of Route (Track and Civils) Systems – Paul Marshall, and Head of Energy Systems – Nick Snell.
Matt joined SNC-Lavalin in 2011 as Director, Control Systems. His promotion follows the significant growth of the team. Matt joined the business from Ansaldo-STS UK, a subsidiary of one the world’s largest rail control and signalling businesses. Previously, he was Head of Control Systems Integration and Technology Projects on the West Coast Route Modernisation. Matt has spent the last 25 years of his career in the construction, energy, and rail transportation sectors.
Martin Fenner was recruited in 2012, as Senior Signalling Systems Consultant within the Control Systems team. He then progressed to Section Head and Head of Business Development, before being promoted to his latest role. Prior to joining SNC-Lavalin, Martin was a Signal Engineer for London Underground. He was also the Young Members Chairman for the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers and a co-founder of the Young Rail Professionals.
Paul Marshall and Nick Snell are both new additions to the SNC-Lavalin team. Paul has dedicated more than 35 years to the rail industry, with a background in track, civil, structures and building engineering. He has undertaken a number of key roles during his career; most recently he was Managing Director at Owen Williams Railways, White Young Green and Bridgezone, and Chief Operating Officer at Robert West.
Nick has spent the past 30 years in senior engineering and operational management roles, which a specific focus on railway electrification and power systems. His previous positions include Head of Electrification at Alstom Transport, Engineering Director for ABC Electrification, Electrification Technical Director for WSP| Parsons Brinckerhoff and Functional Lead for Railway Electrification Contact Systems at Network Rail.
