The UK is now seen as a global centre of excellence in advanced manufacturing and the East Midlands in particular attracts inward investment from, and trades with, partners across the globe. However, having just recovered from the devastating economic downturn of 2008, the sector once again faces a period of uncertainty.
The political events of the summer have set us on a course that will inevitably require a recalibration of our trading position across the globe. The short term benefits to exporters of sterling devaluation face being offset by either an economic downturn or weaker trading position with core markets. Other threats include a possible weakening in our famously flexible and highly skilled workforce along with developing economies making rapid advancements in transforming their manufacturing capability.
Geldards law firm have teamed up with Derby University to host an event that enables students to debate and improve their influence and persuading skills. This event will allow students and employers to engage with academics to hear those with relevant experience and interest, discuss the issues that are relevant to them and their community as a whole. Our high profile speakers will present the case, and invite questions and suggestions from the floor. Our speakers for the evening are:
