Loughborough-based Flotec, a trusted and leading supplier of reliable hose and engineering solutions to the rail market, has scooped a prestigious award for innovation in manufacturing and engineering.
On Tuesday 14th September 2021, LeicestershireLive and Reach PLC held its annual Innovation Awards at the National Space Centre in Leicester.
The awards ceremony celebrated the very best technology, services, digital advances, and creative thinking that the Leicestershire region has to offer.
Additionally, the awards honoured the engineers and construction specialists who are shaping our world.
The event was hosted by television presenter and author, Jason Bradbury and in attendance were a collection of the county’s greatest thinkers, academics, leaders, pioneers, and innovators.
SME Flotec submitted a proposal for its variable pitch fan innovation which keeps DMU train fleet engines cool and filtered, and is successful in reducing the number of service delays and cancellations to the national rail network.
Judges were impressed with Flotec’s preventative approach – as opposed to a reactive one – because the variable pitch fan and associated system technology pre-empts delays and works to eliminate them before they occur, benefitting the rail network and those who rely on it.
