HARTING has been established in the UK for 40 years. During that time, they have built and developed strong relationships within the rail transportation market for their connectivity solutions.
At Railtex 2021, they will be exhibiting their market-leading range of products and introducing some new developments, including high-current interfaces for the exterior of rail vehicles which are simple to install, durable and easy to maintain.
The Han® HPR VarioShell is a flexible housing for inter-car connections, consisting of two parts that can be separated. This creates an open system that simplifies assembly and allows quick access for maintenance and repair. The fixed framework can be filled with a variety of interfaces, contacts and insulating bodies (monoblocs and modular connectors) as required.
For cable-based power supply in the underfloor area, the industry standard UIC 552 has been in place for decades. The new Han® HPR TrainPowerLine reduces working time thanks to pre-assembly. Only two connector variants are required instead of five, reducing the number of components used. This in turn saves weight and simplifies handling, making the TrainPowerLine future-proof and sustainable.
In addition, HARTING have devised a durable, pluggable solution with the High-Performance Transformer Connector (400, 850 or 1400A). With housings designed according to the HPR standard, power above 4 kV can now be supplied in the underfloor area and a significantly longer service life achieved.
HARTING will also be demonstrating other connectivity solutions, including the circular M12 PushPull, which combines compact design with tool-free installation for fast data transmission.
Other innovations include Han® Eco B, a lightweight and energy efficient polyamide connector and the Han® 1A, a compact, modular solution which can integrate contacts for data, signals and power. Both these ranges comply with standard EN 45545-2 for fire performance on railway vehicles.
HARTING have also embraced the trend of miniaturisation, manufacturing board-to-board and wire-to-board connectivity, including innovations for Single Pair Ethernet (SPE).
For the digital railway, they produce the latest in rail-approved connectivity and cabling solutions. This includes the design and manufacture of bespoke cable assemblies, including intercar jumpers, at their custom-built facility in Northampton.
