In a milestone achievement in the 45-year history of the DPS, Deltic locomotive D9015 Tulyar has successfully made its first trial run in 28 years. This took place on the demonstration line at Barrow Hill, Staveley, where the DPS has its depot.
The Deltic has been rebuilt, top to bottom, and was sidelined for many years whilst volunteers’ efforts were concentrated on keeping its other two Deltics in operational order. All three DPS Deltics – 55009 Alycidon, D9015 Tulyar and 55019 Royal Highland Fusilier will be attending the ‘Greatest Gathering’ event at Derby in August, after which D9015 will be taken to the Great Central Railway for further trials.
