Ride the Route smashes its £200k target – and is ready to go further!

Now in its 4th year, Ride the Route is an annual charity fundraising event that sees determined volunteers from organisations across the rail industry cycle over 365km, following major rail routes to raise money for the Railway Children charity. Ride the Route also aims to build and strengthen bonds across our industry to enable more integrated delivery of complex programmes such as ETCS deployment, by uniting organisations in a collective mission to help some of the most vulnerable children in the world.

Previous sponsors of the ride include Alstom, AtkinsRéalis, Avanti West Coast, Hitachi, LNER Mercury3 Consult, PwC and Siemens. Thanks to the sponsors and riders, we raised over £45,000 in 2024, taking the Ride the Route grand fundraising total to over £200,000!

To celebrate the 2024 ride following the TriLink route from Glasgow to Manchester, Railway Children and Ride the Route will be hosting a gala dinner at The Midland in Manchester on Thursday 13 March. It will be an evening of beautiful food, lively celebration and a very cool band to keep you dancing the night away!

The event is also the ‘handing of the baton’ over to this year’s route, sponsors and riders. The 2025 ride will go coast-to-coast across the TransPennine Route and the two oldest railways in the world – marking the 200th anniversary of the railway.

Tickets for the Gala Dinner are priced at a very reasonable £2500 for a table of 10 (inc. VAT) and include a 3-course dinner, drinks package and live entertainment. There will also be a charity raffle, where you can walk away with an exciting prize whilst making a difference to children most in need.

Ride the Route 2025 will take place 4 – 6 September and follows the TransPennine Route Upgrade route from Liverpool to Scarbrough and back to Darlington. It’s a friendly and supportive ride, and cyclists of all abilities are welcome. If riding isn’t for you, we are also looking for support crew to help keep the riders fed, hydrated and safe!
