Rail Forum is pleased to announce the winners and runners up for the 2024 Rail Safety Week Children’s Competitions which aimed to serve as a basic platform for parents, guardians and teachers to start conversations with young people as to the importance of safety on and around the railway.
Due to the amazing range of entries within the 4-6 age category of the colouring competition, we redefined the categories to allow for an additional winner. From a shortlist of entries for each age group, our judging panel, which consisted of a representative from each of our fantastic competition sponsors plus a member of the Rail Safety Week Steering Group, completed an exercise to select the winners. Our sincere thanks to competition sponsors Modern Railways and the Department for Business and Trade for their support.
Competition sponsor representative, Dave Lane from Modern Railways said: “What a great set of pictures to judge! The standard was very high for people so young and also in some pictures the artist clearly understood the rail safety implication of a yellow line on a platform, fantastic for their age.”
Rail Safety Week Steering Group Member, Karen Bennett of Community Rail Network said: “It’s wonderful to see so many young people use their creativity to demonstrate rail safety knowledge. Well done to all winners.”

“We look forward to running further children’s competitions as part of Rail Safety Week 2025 and hope to inspire even more conversations with young people on engaging safely with the railways.”
