Sicut Enterprises Ltd. (Sicut), the global market-leader in the supply of composite railway sleepers manufactured from recycled plastic waste, is proud to announce that it has been awarded its third consecutive Deutsche Bahn (DB) contract for the supply of composite railway sleepers.
Sicut won its first DB tender in 2022, following an upsurge in demand for its innovative sleepers, with a second contract awarded in 2023.
DB has now installed thousands of Sicut’s composite sleepers, which, as well as enhancing the quality of the track infrastructure, have repurposed millions of waste plastic bottles and have saved millions of kilograms of CO2e. It has also meant that thousands of hardwood trees have not had to be unnecessarily felled, protecting local wildlife and ecosystems. DB’s growing use of Sicut’s sleepers is helping it meet its Green Transformation Agenda, which aims to achieve a circular economy system and climate neutrality by 2040.
Sicut’s independent EPD certification of its products, in line with EN15804, enables DB to accurately quantify the environmental benefits they will deliver by using Sicut’s sleepers.
In addition to the important environmental benefits, DB will also benefit from significant long-term f inancial savings, when compared to hardwood, due to greatly reduced maintenance and renewal interventions during the sleepers’ long track asset lifetime. Sicut has also been awarded DB’s highest HPQ quality certificate (Q1) for a second time in succession in 2024.
This latest 2024 contact term is also much longer than in previous contracts, 2 years with option to extend for a further 2 years, illustrating DB’s growing confidence in Sicut’s sleepers, which were first installed in its infrastructure in 2016.
This confidence is further reflected in Sicut being one of only three suppliers to be shortlisted for DB’s much coveted Supplier Innovation Award, with the winner announced at Innotrans in September.
Anil Aggarwal, Director at Sicut, comments: “Sicut is delighted to have secured its third consecutive Deutsche Bahn contract and looks forward to working even closer with all DB regions over the coming years in support of their drive to improve track safety and deliver against the targets set out in the Green Transport Agenda. This latest contract award, after over 8 years in track, highlights DB’s confidence in the performance, quality and reliability of Sicut’s products and also in Sicut as a supply chain partner.”
