Mitie gets free period products on track at Network Rail

Travellers will soon be able to access free period products at transport hubs around the UK.

It’s all thanks to a partnership between Network Rail, the social enterprise Hey Girls and Mitie, which will see the items stocked at more than 700 rail locations.

The move is a hugely positive step in combatting period poverty and promoting menstrual health.

Network Rail Strategic Account Director at Mitie, Kelly Parish, said: “We’re incredibly proud that Mitie and Network Rail are introducing free sanitary products to hundreds of sites across the UK…Together we’re taking a significant step towards combating period poverty and ensuring dignity for all.”

The disposable period products are environmentally friendly and are available to travellers, colleagues and others who need these essential items.

Hey Girls Partnership and Contracts Manager, Daisy Williams, hailed the partnership.

She said: “All of us at Hey Girls are absolutely thrilled. This will benefit thousands of people across the UK. So many people know the panic of being caught short while travelling, and having these free period products available in stations will be a blessing to those in need.”

Since 2018, Hey Girls has donated over 33m period products through its initiative.

Praising the drive, Route Property and Facilities Manager at Network Rail, Rachael Kearns, said: “This is a fantastic scheme, not only providing products to our workforce but helping those in need.”
