Talent services specialist Ford & Stanley Group is celebrating the achievements of four young engineering apprentices it sponsored to run the Manchester Marathon.
Benjamin Saxton, Gracie Clifton, Thomas Beardall and Megan Lawapprentices from DB Cargo in Toton, joined thousands of runners on the 14th April who took to the streets of Greater Manchester to take part in the 26.2 mile challenge, the UK’s second-largest marathon. Running in aid of Sepsis UK, they raised over £3,300, with more donations still coming in.
The £1,000 sponsorship is acknowledgement of Ford & Stanley’s long-standing, established relationship with DB Cargo, which has been working closely with the leading rail freight company since 2019 through its white-and blue-collar recruitment, salary benchmarking and onboarding services.
As part of the sponsorship support, the apprentices benefitted from pre-event performance coaching sessions under Ford & Stanley’s ‘Genius Performance’ development programme, including onsite 1-2-1 training sessions from Performance Coach Andy Duncan. He helped equip the runners with the right mindset to take on one of Europe’s most iconic running events by providing the tools and techniques to overcome obstacles to high performance.
Jon Harman (Head of Asset Management) at DB Cargo (Toton) said: “We couldn’t be prouder of what our apprentices have achieved. It is a huge accomplishment, both with the amount they have raised for such a worthy cause and for completing such a tough challenge. Ford & Stanley’s support has been incredible and is a testament to the strong partnership we have established with them.”
Ricky Wright (Head of Sales – Talentwise, Ford & Stanley) commented: “We’d like to extend our congratulations to all of them for their amazing efforts. It is pleasing to see how much the performance coaching we provided was put to good use. We’re delighted to be able to provide our support as part of our ongoing relationship with DB Cargo.”
Gracie Clifton, DB Cargo apprentice said: “Crossing the finish line was the best feeling ever. The months of training, the early mornings, the doubts – all worth it. It was also extremely useful to have access to the Performance Coach ahead of the event as it helped me be focused and in the right frame of mind.”
