A few weeks ago CoMech jointly hosted a workshop with Greenwood Engineering to highlight the hardware and software to the delegates who attended from a range of rail operators across the country.
The workshop kicked off with Dorte Overmark Rasmussen (Greenwood Engineering) highlighting the importance of measuring using very visual imagery that raised some eyebrows. Dorte stated that ‘measuring puts you in control of the right behaviour for track and wheels for safety reasons.’
Greenwood recognises the various ways the measuring happens on the railways today, including visual inspections, manual hand held units and reference sheets being used. The workshop was about highlighting full contact measuring systems, like MiniProf is. When choosing this type of measurement process it’s all about the cost and what you get out of the tool when deciding which option to invest in. A key point made by Dorte was ‘data reliability and accuracy are considerations to make when considering choosing your measurement technique.’
Khurram Khan, the software expert from Greenwood Engineering, provided an indepth session on Envision and Criterion Software tips and tricks; including an introduction to all the software features including analysing measurements, trend analysis and batch processing.
Showing the software on the screen and walking through profile alignment, types of profiles measuring, measuring in 1 or 2 parts and automation within the software for profiles is how Khurram led the session.
This interactive session and input is welcomed from the users who are sitting in the room to gain their insight and experiences make the software even better.
CoMech were very grateful to Dr Mark Burstow and Sorin Castravete who walked through their extensive experience and expertise with MiniProf within Network Rail. It was really valuable for people within the room to hear how they utiilse both the hardware and software to ensure rail safety.
As the sole UK calibration company for MiniProf systems our Technical Director Hannah Jones, highlighted the expertise our team has on both the hardware and software to support users on their journey to adopting MiniProf.
Hannah says “Thank you to everyone who took time out of their busy schedules to join Greenwood Engineering and CoMech for our MiniProf Workshop Day. It was great to run an event where participants were so engaged and asking questions to help them. I’d like to extend my special thanks to Mark and Sorin for also providing an overview of MiniProf usage from their perspective and experience.”
A day which highlighted how much measurement matters!
