Diamond Rail Services have recently been awarded a contract by Hitachi Rail to
support the £27 million upgrade of Southeastern’s high speed Javelin fleet.
A premium line deserves a premium refurbishment and together Diamond and Hitachi Rail will deliver the interior works which include; new floor coverings throughout, interior paint and powder coating, seat refurbishment, as well as toilet floor modifications that Diamond have designed a solution for. The Javelin fleet will also receive CCTV / PIS, LED Lighting and at seat power upgrades.
The upgrade of the Javelin fleet of 29 x 6 car 395 units is taking place at Ashford Depot in Kent.
Contracting Sheffield based Diamond is an example of Hitachi Rail’s commitment to
prioritise domestic supply chains. This approach has resulted in Hitachi Rail investing over £2.2bn in the UK supply chain since 2015.
Sara Pierrepont, Head of Projects at Diamond Rail Services said: “This is a great opportunity for Southeastern, Hitachi Rail and Diamond to enhance the customer experience. I’m excited to be leading the project on behalf of Diamond and celebrating our success with the entire team in the future.”
The refurbishments are set to be underway in June 2023 and mobilisation tasks and
meetings are in full motion. We look forward to seeing the transformed units later this year.
