International Men’s Day Event, 16 November, Millbank Tower, London
Males make up the majority of the UK’s railway workforce. Ensuring our people are healthy, both mentally and physically – offers greater returns to railway employers. Join the Railway Industry Association/ Women in Rail EDI Charter Working Group on Wednesday 16 November for an event in advance of International Men’s Day, focusing on men’s mental health. The event will see a range of engaging speakers from rail and beyond, talking about their own experiences and how they have supported friends and colleagues.
The keynote speaker for this event will be Victor Ubogu, former Bath and England Rugby Union Player, who since retiring from rugby has started his own events organisation. Victor is known for being open about his own experiences with mental health and has openly called for more to be done about racism in rugby.
Other speakers for the event include Dan Reed from STM Group, who has been working on the rollout of a suicide prevention initiative with Network Rail Southern; Liam Johnston from charity the Railway Mission; and Edwyn Van Rooyen, CEO and founder of T-Cup, a science-based wellbeing platform.
The event will also include a panel discussion chaired by Paul McGunnigle-White, a member of the EDI Charter Working Group. Panellists include David Scott, Managing Director at Skills for Security, Mandeep Singh, Marketing Director of D/Gauge, and Riyaz Somani, Head of Security at the British Library.
There will also be the opportunity for networking following the event. The Working Group have looked to get inputs from a range of speakers outside of rail alongside the rail representatives, to get a wider view of how other industries and organisations are looking out for their employees and communities.
