Rail consultant David Brough has played a key role in setting up a collaboration between a specialist land based college and his local scout group which benefits both partners.
David, who runs Cheshire based Rail Competence & Compliance Ltd, is also Scout Leader of the 38th South West Cheshire Scout Group. He approached nearby Reaseheath College for help when the scout group needed a temporary home during the demolition and rebuild of its headquarters.
The college is supportive of local community projects and was happy to provide accommodation for the 50-plus members of the group plus its adult helpers in its construction workshops and classrooms. The group, which consists of a scout troop, cub pack and beaver colony, now meets at the college on two evenings a week.
Reaseheath is also hoping to involve T Level students and apprentices in site surveying and practical construction on the headquarter rebuild once funding is in place.
David, who specialises in training, assessment and competence management, is consulting with the college to support rail based apprenticeship delivery in its bespoke Apprenticeship Engineering Academy.
Reaseheath College currently offers a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship for Rail Engineering Technicians. Designed in partnership with Alstom and Arriva Trains, the apprenticeship provides a career route within the rail industry for aspiring engineering technicians.
The college is aiming to expand and develop its rail engineering apprenticeships and welcomes further partnerships within the rail industry.
David Brough said: “This is an excellent two way collaboration which is benefitting both partners. The 38th South West Cheshire Scout Group is a long established and thriving youth organisation and we are very grateful that Reaseheath has offered to meet the requirements of all our scouts, cubs and beavers on one site.
“I also actively support the relationship between the college and the rail industry, which I believe will benefit apprenticeship provision across the whole rail engineering sector.”
