Eversholt Rail and Gemini Rail Services (Gemini) are delighted to announce an initial programme to convert four Class 321 units for Swift Express Freight. Conversion work will commence during November with unit delivery expected from February 2022.
Eversholt Rail is negotiating with an ever-increasing number of train operators who are seeking to capitalise on the HGV driver shortage and other logistics issues affecting supply chains across the UK.
Swift Express Freight delivers cost-effective, efficient transportation of goods into city centres or rail-linked warehouse facilities. Encouraging modal shift from road to rail, the use of Express Rail Freight removes HGVs from towns and cities, reducing congestion whilst supporting the drive to net-zero emissions by 2050.
The four units are an evolution of the Swift First-in-Class that was launched in July 2021. In addition to removal of seats, fitment of new flooring and a retention system, this enhanced Version 2 will also see Gemini remove the toilets and relocate the GSM-R and OTM-R equipment to provide additional capacity.
Negotiations with prospective operators are at an advanced stage and Eversholt Rail expects to agree a lease for the four units by the end of 2021.
