On Tuesday 31st August, The Under Secretary of State in the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy and Minister for London, Paul Scully visited Brookhouse Aerospace for a tour of its facility in Darwen, Lancashire.
Brookhouse Aerospace is an independent UK business recently rebranded following an MBO from the US based Kaman Aerospace Group.
The Brookhouse name draws on the long history of a business continually trading since 1951, originally serving the local foundry industry with metallic patterns and tools but having evolved over the years to become a key supplier to several OE Aerospace manufacturers in the UK and Europe for composite and metallic parts, treatments and assemblies.
The Minister Paul Scully along with Jake Berry, Blackburn and Darwen MP and other distinguished guests from the Aerospace industry and local government officials met with Christopher Morris, CEO and Matthew Rossiter, CFO of Brookhouse Aerospace. The visitors were given a full tour of the facility to showcase Brookhouse Aerospace capabilities.
Brookhouse Aerospace CEO, Christopher Morris said: “It was an excellent opportunity to discuss with the Minister both the opportunities and challenges facing us in the current climate and how Brookhouse Aerospace are tackling these challenges. I strongly feel that by investing in the future through the introduction of new capabilities including additive manufacturing and the development of automation to increase our competitiveness in a difficult market.
We have already invested in improving efficiency on specific programmes by developing equipment jointly with a technology partner that considerably reduces the requirement for manual input, improves lead-time and efficiency and therefore production cost.
We recognise that being proactive will allow us to remain competitive within a sector that continues to suffer from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The industry will take time to recover but the newly independent Brookhouse Aerospace supported by our investors and customers is working to ensure we are in the best possible position to take advantage of the recovery as it comes.
We are also taking advantage of our enhanced capabilities to promote the business in different geographical regions and business segments where we see further opportunities for growth.”
The tour covered Brookhouse Aerospace on-site Laboratory where product and processes are verified and validated and the Minister also visited the sheet metal fabrication and surface treatments areas of the business.
The tour continued into the Holme Mill facility where the three largest (up to 13m in length) Autoclaves are situated and tour concluded in the NDT department where all the composite products manufactured in Brookhouse Aerospace are processed and verified to be conforming.
Minister for Aerospace Paul Scully said: “A strong and competitive Aerospace industry is right at the heart of our plans to build back better from the pandemic.
Brookhouse Aerospace’s cutting edge use of automation shows how embracing the latest digital technology is helping to propel the UK’s aerospace sector to the front of the pack and bring benefits across the UK, including in Lancashire.”
Brookhouse Aerospace is an independent UK Engineering and Manufacturing business formed following an MBO from the US based Kaman Corporation in February 2021.
The UK facility has grown its focus from manufacturing composite components, structures and assemblies, to offer a complete manufacturing solution covering a broader range of capabilities. Brookhouse Aerospace can offer a wider range of capabilities which now includes metallics, sheet metalwork, fabrication, machining and metal and composite bonding. The facility now has on-site a fully NADCAP, Airbus and BAE Systems approved treatment facility to support customer needs. Additionally, the business also offers a range of Ground Support Equipment to MRO customers.
Brookhouse Aerospace’s key markets lie within the Aerospace and Defence sector and the industry is facing challenging times ahead due to several factors. With the growth and expansion in capabilities the business will be able to demonstrate to its customers an ability to satisfy their needs on a wider scale.
End.
