£200m Redevelopment of Derby Set to Go Ahead

Plans have been released detailing the future development of Derby’s railway station. The scheme involves creating additional platform capacity at the station with the addition of a new ‘through platform’ to the east of the existing site.

The plans outline the construction of a new platform on the Pride Park side of Derby Midland Station. This new platform will not only help ease congestion at the station, but will also help increase capacity.

Network Rail, who submitted the plans, said: “This upgrade is a significant piece of work that will bring journey time benefits to passengers travelling to, from, and through Derby.”

Alongside the additional platform works is the upgrading of the track, signalling and points around the station with £200million allocated to the project by Network Rail. The development is part of a wider upgrade of the Midland Mainline between the capital and Sheffield, which will see the electrification of the line, and faster journey times. Scheduled for completion in December 2023.
