Businesses have been invited to hear how they can get involved in HS2 Ltd at the Supply Chain Conference in Birmingham.
The conference, being held at the ICC on November 5, is the first of a series of events to tell companies about the business opportunities as part of HS2.
Over £10bn of contracts are available with the project, and skills in planning, design and construction will be needed.
Beth West, HS2 Ltd, commercial director said: “We look forward to engaging with our supply chain, to develop a world class high speed rail industry and skills base in the UK. The Birmingham Supply Chain Conference will be the first opportunity to demonstrate how HS2 will work with industry partners.
“To deliver this nationally important project on time and below budget, we need to work closely with suppliers early on, to ensure that sufficient planning is in place before the start of the formal procurement process. This will also benefit business, by giving them a head start to make the investments they require in recruitment, training and education to support the innovative ways of working we need to deliver HS2.”
Jerry Blackett, chief executive of Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, said:
“The high volume of sign-ups to the supply chain conference at this early stage shows that businesses are taking the right approach towards the procurement opportunities of HS2.
“HS2 will be an economic game-changer, and it is vital that businesses are aware of the opportunities on offer. The supply chain conference on 5 November is an excellent chance for businesses to explore these options and prepare for its construction.”
